Promote the Pawn: Youth Chess Program

Building Brains, Shaping Futures

Our Promote the Pawn program at Restore to Life is more than just a chess club; it’s a gateway for Arizona’s youth to develop critical thinking skills, patience, and the confidence needed to succeed in all areas of life. By teaching chess strategies and fostering a love for the game, we equip young people with tools for decision-making and resilience, skills that will serve them well beyond the chessboard.

Program Highlights

Skill Assessment
Each participant begins with a skills assessment to identify their chess experience level and learning needs. Our certified coaches then tailor a development plan to help each young player reach their full potential.

One-on-One Tutoring
Under the guidance of U.S. Chess Federation-rated players, our participants benefit from individualized instruction that caters to their unique abilities and learning styles. Our coaches focus on improving gameplay, fostering strategic thinking, and encouraging personal growth through structured chess lessons.

Weekend Chess Club Membership
Members of the chess club enjoy exclusive access to one hour of free chess play on Saturdays and Sundays, creating an environment of friendly competition and camaraderie. Players also have opportunities for consultations with certified chess coaches who help refine their techniques and boost their skills.

Monthly Tournaments
Our tournaments are designed to provide a challenging yet supportive atmosphere where young players can put their skills to the test. These events teach sportsmanship, decision-making under pressure, and accountability, helping youth understand the impact of their choices both on and off the board.

Why Chess?
Chess is not only a game of strategy but a powerful tool for personal development. It engages both sides of the brain, enhances memory, and improves concentration. As participants learn to anticipate consequences and think multiple steps ahead, they become better equipped to navigate real-life challenges with clarity and resilience.
